CMC Notes, May 2008

Other Music Interests

Central Maryland Chorale
(formerly Laurel Oratorio Society)

It is with the deepest sorrow that the Central Maryland Chorale mourns the sudden death of tenor Ron Pitts (1949-2008). Ron was a long-time member, an integral part of the tenor section, an enthusiastic volunteer and a dear friend. His wife, Pat, and daughter, Marie, CMC altos, son Mark, and the congregation of Laurel Presbyterian Church are in our thoughts and prayers. Ron will be sorely missed for a long time to come.

ABOUT THE CENTRAL MARYLAND CHORALE

The Central Maryland Chorale began as the Laurel Oratorio Society, an association of choir members from local churches, gathered together to sing Brahms’ Requiem at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in 1969. Now celebrating its 38th year of performing before appreciative local audiences, the CMC is a non-auditioned chorus which attracts singers from the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore who enjoy singing choral masterworks, as well as lighter musical fare.

CMC is a non-profit organization supported by its patrons and advertisers, by grants from the Mayor and City Council of Laurel, the Prince George’s County Council, the Prince George’s Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council (which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts). Since ticket sales and existing grants pay for only a small portion of our seasons of wonderful music, we ask that you seriously consider becoming a patron of the arts by donating to the CMC.
